| Description: | Objectives: To provide analysis and policy guidance that will stimulate national and international debate and action about achieving greater inclusion of the chronic poor in the formulation of, and benefits from, developing policy. Background: Although the Centre is not yet established, this proposal builds on the findings of two recently completed ESRC research projects: *The first revealed that market-based economic development in remote rural areas in Africa is associated with growing inequality, reduced access to natural resources for the poorest and the social and economic marginalisation of significant numbers of people. Analysing patterns of in- and out-migration and rural-urban linkages is fundamental to understanding the dynamics of social exclusion within, and outside, such regions. |
