Barley germplasm improvement for increased productivity

| Description: | The Government of Italy annually finances this programme as part of its support to the CGIAR centres. The budget indicated is for 2007. The project aims at increasing barley productivity in marginal areas through adoption of improved varieties, resistant to biotic and abiotic stress. The project has reached important results, with a large number of farmers actively involved, the introduction of 90 new varieties in 10 countries, adopted by 30% of farmers. It involves countries in Latin America, North Africa, Central Asia, China, Nepal, Yemen, Eritrea. |
