| Description: | South Initiatives include Research Backpacks, Travel Grants for Short stays or Visitings. The ‘Research Backpacks’ provides small sums of money to International Course (ICP) graduates, originating from a developing country. The money should be used as starter credit to purchase products (equipment, consumer goods) necessary for research, after return of graduates in their own local institution. ‘Visitings’ finances missions undertaken by academics in the frame of university development cooperation. The programme comprises: -missions by visiting professors from North or South with the aim of teaching or transferring knowledge -missions, in either direction, undertaken by Flemish and local promoters of doctorate students from the South whose scholarship is not being funded by VLIR. The ‘Short Research Stays’ programme finances stays in the South by young researchers linked to a Flemish university. A stay should be incorporated into a development project at a research institution in the South. The aim of the ‘Short Research Stays’ programme is to build up the development capacity of research units at a Flemish university. |
