| Description: | The programme ‘Own Initiatives’ (OI) finances research or training projects initiated by academics at Flemish universities in close cooperation with an academic partner from a developing country. Own Initiatives are designed to strengthen the education and/or research capacity of the local partner by means of knowledge exchange and cooperation, including institutional reinforcement of the academic unity in the South. Each year, VLIR launches a call for the submission of proposals. Selection takes place on a competitive basis over two selection rounds. A project can run for a maximum of 5 years. Tenured academic staff (‘ZAP’) members or equivalent linked to a Flemish university may submit a project proposal. Unless it is mentioned otherwise in the call. If you are interested to collaborate as an academic from the South with a Flemish partner you can search the list 'Expertise in Flanders'. The list contains Flemish academics which were involved in VLIR projects since 1998. |
