NERICA among Top Agricultural Breakthroughs of Last 30 Years

| Description: | The Africa Rice Center (WARDA) launched “Dr Monty Jones Lecture” series to honor Dr. Monty Jones, the Father of NERICA, during a special ceremony in Cotonou, Benin. Dr Monty Jones, Executive Secretary of FARA, is the first and, until now, the only African to win the World Food Prize for his pioneering research at the Africa Rice Center (WARDA) that led to the NERICA breakthrough, which has been cited as a ‘major agricultural research breakthrough of the last 30 years’. In his speech, Dr Jones announced that NERICA was among the first group of promising technologies identified by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) for the Dissemination of New Agricultural Technologies in Africa (DONATA) Program. The “Dr Monty Jones Lecture” series will invite prominent scientists, academics and development personalities to speak on agriculture related topics for the promotion of science and technology in Africa.
